Nancy e l’atomismo

Abstract

Per Nancy l’atomismo greco rappresenta “l’altro inizio” della filosofia, diverso dall’inizio platonico. Il pensiero atomistico è doppio: da un lato afferma la costituzione molteplice delle cose, la loro condizione frammentata e dispersa. Questo è l’aspetto su cui insiste Nancy: il fatto che ogni unità presenta una tessitura multipla, la presenza necessaria di una distanza dentro ogni rapporto, il mondo come un concatenamento di esposizioni. C’è però un altro aspetto dell’atomismo, un pensiero che afferma l’unità indefettibile e dominatrice del molteplice. L’atomo e la sensazione sono due cose che manifestano una coerenza interna assoluta: il primo è “solido”, la seconda è “certa”. La comprensione della Natura come pluralità primordiale dice in modo soltanto parziale la verità dell’atomismo. L’altra verità dell’atomismo è la necessità fisica ed esperienziale dell’unità.

For Nancy, Greek atomism represents “the other beginning” of philosophy, different from the Platonic beginning. Atomistic thought is double: on the one hand it affirms the multiple constitution of things, their fragmented and dispersed condition. This is the aspect on which Nancy insists: the fact that each unit presents a multiple texture, the necessary presence of a distance within each relationship, the world as a chain of exposures. However, there is another aspect of atomism, a thought that affirms the indefectible and dominating unity of the multiple. The atom and the sensation are two things that manifest an absolute internal coherence: the first is “solid”, the second is “certain”. The understanding of Nature as primordial plurality tells only partially the truth of atomism. The other truth of atomism is the physical and experiential necessity of unity.
