The essay analyzes the need to overcome the traditional linear economic model (or brown economy), based on the unlimited consumption of resources and short-term profit maximization, in favor of an anthropocentric and regenerative economic paradigm. It highlights how international, European, and national law (from the 2030 Agenda to the Green New Deal, up to the Italian constitutional reforms and the PNRR) is shaping a new public intervention in the economy inspired by the principles of sustainability and resilience. The institutional evolution toward this “new economic humanism” finds its center of gravity in three economic paradigms capable of combining efficiency with social cohesion and the limits of the biosphere: namely, the circular economy, the orange economy, and the social and solidarity economy. This transition is not merely a moral option, but rather a necessary functional precondition to guarantee stability, lasting progress, and the safeguarding of future generations.
