Abstract
This essay examines the transformation of oceanic space from an indeterminate
margin to a strategic infrastructure of power, exploring the role of cartography and
technology in its symbolic and political production. Carl Schmitt’s concept of
Raumrevolution highlights the shift from Landnahme to Seehnahme, culminating
in contemporary digital thalassocracy. Cartography, rather than a mere descriptive
tool, functions as a spatial ordering device, redefining the land-sea dialectic in the
information era. Oceanic depth emerges as a strategic infrastructural node, where
digital networks and control mechanisms reshape power dynamics. Finally, the
essay addresses the implications of ecological crisis and spatial justice, emphasizing
the need to critically reconsider oceanic spatiality considering new technologies and
global appropriation processes.
