Abstract

After a brief introduction about tbe great extent and complessity of this subject, and on tbe very arduous task of tbe moderne Pbytojatrics, tbe autbor reports a criticai examination of some important problems, wbicb tbe use of tbe main sintbetic pesticides (cblorinated bydrocarbons, organopbospbates, carbamates, organic nematocides and fungicides, selective berbicides) bave brougbt up, since tbe last post-war till to tbe present time. In particular, are bere reported and discussed many informations about tbe benefits and tbe undesirable effects of tbe widespread application of poi- sons in agriculture. It is asserted tbat tbe benefits clearly exceed tbe undersi- rable effects for wildlife and for man; moreover tbese undesirable effects are almost always to attribute to tbe wrong employment of pesticides, ando to tbe omission of precautionary measures (against accidents) on tbe market and during field treatments. Then some future prospects (offered by selected cbemical and biological non conventional metbods and mainly by tbe integrated control) are bere reported about the achievement of this difficult but not impossible living together between the plant protection and the wildlife conservation.
