ACROBASIS SODALELLA ZELL. (LEP. PYRALIDAE) DANNOSA ALLA QUERCIA

Abstract

L'A. ha studiato la morfologia dell'Acrobasis sodalella Zeller (Lep. Pyralidae) ed ha effettuato alcune osservazioni biologiche; L'A. descrive gli ultimi uriti della femmina, l'organo copulatore del maschio e la larva matura, soffermandosi sulla.sua chetotassi.

La specie è stata osseervata su Quercus pubescens (Roverella); le larve neonate corrono la pagina inferiore delle foglie; quelle di II e III età svernano entro ripari formati da foglie e fili di seta molto abbondanti; le larve dell'ultima età vivono in nidi formati da più foglie erose tenute assieme da fili sericei e· fuoriescono da essi pernutrirsi.

La specie ha nel Piacentino una generazione all'anno. Gli adulti compaiono di solito dalla fine di maggio alla fine di giugno e le uova sono deposte in giugno-luglio sugli apici vegetativi; le larve nascono in luglio e svernano nella II e nella · III età; in primavera le larve producono i maggiori danni sulle foglie di cui lasciano spesso intatte soltanto le nervature principali; l'incrisalidamento avviene in maggio nel terreno alla base delle piante o nei ricoveri larvali.

The author describes the morphology of Acrobasis sodalelle Zeller (Lep. Pyralidae) and  gives an account of investigation on bionomics. The last abdominal segments of the female, the organ of copulation of the male and the mature larva with special regard on its chaetotaxy are desctibed in detail.

The species has been observed dangerous to Quercus pubescens; the newborn larvae erode the back of leaves; the second-instar and third-instar larvae overwinters under cover formed with a. good quantity of silky threads and leaves; the last-instar larvae live in nests made up of more eroded leaves bound together by silky threads and crawl out from these to feed on the foliage.

The species in the province of Piacenza (North ltaly) has one generation each year. The adults emerge usually between the end of May and the end of June; the eggs are laid in June-July an the buds and the larvae hatches in July and overwinfers·in the second- and third-instar; the greater part of damage is caused in spring to leaves on which they leave only the principal nervations; pupation took piace in May in the soil arourùf thé base of the plants or in the larval covers.
